At Collège Champittet, we believe that the performing arts are for everyone. Engaging with music, dance and drama from a young age opens doors to self-expression and self-discovery, whether pursued professionally or as a hobby. Participating in the performing arts is a life-changing experience – which is why we are proud to collaborate with The Juilliard School.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Juilliard and Nord Anglia Education’s performing arts collaboration. This innovative programme brings the Juilliard approach to more than 50,000 students across Nord Anglia’s family of schools – including our own students at Champittet. Through this collaboration, we are able to deliver outstanding performing arts education to our students, right here on campus.
Throughout the year, our performing arts teachers are supported by Juilliard Creative Classroom resources and Juilliard curriculum specialists – experienced educators and artists who share their expertise in the Juilliard approach. Curriculum specialists from Juilliard also regularly visit our school to motivate and inspire our community through workshops, ensemble coaching, guided rehearsals and class discussion.
During the summer holidays, our students can join the Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard programme. Taught by Juilliard educators, this unique programme gives participants a chance to immerse themselves in music, dance and drama while making new friends who share their passions.
In today’s digital world, engaging with the performing arts is perhaps more important than ever. Playing an instrument, acting in a play, learning the moves to a new dance – all these activities provide a rewarding blend of physical and intellectual stimulation. They also provide a valuable opportunity to experience teamwork in action and to overcome fears such as stage fright.
When students participate in the performing arts, they learn to take risks, solve problems, be creative and feel confident in their own skin. These are all transferrable skills, which help young people to thrive academically, professionally and personally.
At the end of November, we were delighted to welcome Laura Careless, Dance Curriculum Specialist at Juilliard, to Collège Champittet. Laura has previously visited our school to observe our dance classes, coach our teachers and hold demo classes for our students.
Our students and teachers had a wonderful time with Laura, who left us with these inspiring words:
“It is really wonderful to see how many different ways we can respond to the same creative brief. Just being immersed in human creativity is something that gives me genuine hope.“
