Skills AI Can’t Match: How we prepare your child for the future at NAIS Pudong

Skills AI Can’t Match: How we prepare your child for the future at NAIS Pudong - Skills AI

When answers are everywhere, can children still think for themselves?

In a world where information is instant and technology is increasingly powerful, success will depend on more than knowledge alone. It will depend on the human qualities that help young people navigate uncertainty, collaborate with others, and create new possibilities.

At Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong, these qualities are reflected in three values that guide everything we do:

Creative. Confident. Considerate.

From innovation challenges inspired by real-world problems, to reflective learning practices that build independent thinking, to service initiatives that develop empathy and social responsibility, our students are learning skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Because the future won't belong to those who simply have the answers. It will belong to those who know how to think, create, and care.

Confident Thinkers

When AI can answer almost anything, will children still trust their own judgement?

In a world where answers are only a click away, confidence isn't about always being right. It's about knowing how to think through uncertainty, make decisions, and keep going when the answer isn't obvious.

Our latest research found that when students regularly practise thinking routines:

  • 85% reported a better understanding of their strengths

  • 76% reported greater independence

  • 72% reported a deeper understanding of how they learn

These are the foundations of confident learners—young people who can think for themselves, adapt to challenges, and trust their ability to navigate an increasingly complex world.

Creative Thinkers

AI can generate answers. But can it imagine what doesn’t exist yet?

Creativity isn’t about finding the right answer. It’s about exploring possibilities, testing ideas, learning from failure, and trying again.

Through our collaboration with MIT, students are challenged to solve real-world problems that don’t come with a ready-made solution. Working in teams, they learn to think creatively, adapt their ideas, and turn imagination into action.

"There wasn't one correct answer. We had to keep changing our ideas and learning from what didn't work."

These experiences help students move beyond simply consuming information and become creators, innovators, and problem-solvers.

Because in an AI world, the ability to imagine, create, and innovate will always matter.

Considerate Thinkers

Some of the most important lessons happen beyond the classroom.

Every year, our students come together to support communities in Guizhou through a social impact initiative. They collected clothing donations, carefully sorted and organised each item, and personally delivered them to the communities they were supporting.

But the experience was about more than giving.

It was about understanding different perspectives, recognising the needs of others, and learning how even small actions can make a meaningful difference.

In a world increasingly shaped by technology, empathy, compassion, and human connection remain irreplaceable.

These are the qualities that help young people become responsible global citizens—individuals who not only succeed themselves, but also contribute positively to the lives of others.
