Prior to relocating to Shanghai, Richard held a range of leadership roles at a culturally diverse inner-city school in Birmingham, the United Kingdom. During this time, he oversaw all aspects of English Reading and Writing provision, including teaching and learning quality assurance, data tracking and assessment, and curriculum design. He also mentored trainee teachers through both the PGCE and Teach First programmes.
Richard has spent several years within Nord Anglia Education, most recently serving as Deputy Head of Primary at The British International School Shanghai, Puxi, before joining Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong, as Head of Primary. Following his successful leadership of the Primary School, Richard has now taken on the role of Principal. Drawing on his wealth of knowledge and experience, he is committed to ensuring that every student in our care is empowered to thrive, both academically and personally, with confidence and enjoyment.
Before embarking on his teaching career, Richard was privileged to work with The Royal Household, including Royal Collection Education, and The College of St. George, Windsor Castle. These experiences have provided him with many fascinating anecdotes that he continues to enjoy sharing with eager students.
Outside of school, Richard loves nothing more than reading, a passion he never tires of sharing with his students. As Principal, he looks forward to working closely with students, parents and the wider school community, and to seeing every student flourish and achieve their full potential.
