In the final of our series of alumni spotlight articles, we speak with Matthew Ward, a professional football player in England who spent six years at NAIS Pudong before departing in 2019 to take up his current role as an elite sports star!

At NAIS Pudong, we strive to achieve our values, one element of which is building confidence in our students to help them better prepare for life after education.  But what about building the confidence to question one’s approach and strategy in tacking tasks or ideas?

On the last day of Term One, Principal Diane Vaughan conducted the termly Principal's Awards, this time celebrating the outstanding contributions of students who exemplify one of the school's core values of being considerate.

On 9th and 10th of December years 7-9 students were given the chance to debate on a given present-day topic. A debate is a structured discussion where individuals present and defend their viewpoints on a topic, aiming to persuade others with well-supported arguments.

As part of the Living Legacies lecture series and integrated with the teaching curriculum, NAIS Pudong Secondary invited two parents on December 6 to deliver a lecture on parent-child relationships to the Y8 and Y9 students.

As our students depart for their Christmas holidays, we reflect on what has been a very busy first term.  From international trips to the USA with UNICEF, STEAM visits to MIT, trekking expeditions to Switzerland, or sports competitions in Thailand, our students have certainly been busy.

We are delighted to be named as a finalist for the China Schools Awards 2025, organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in China! The awards recognise and celebrate the achievement and best practice of international-oriented K12 education in China, and we’ve been shortlisted within both the Enterprise & Employability and Staff Development and Wellbeing categories.

We recently had the incredible opportunity to travel to Thailand for the U19 FOBISIA Basketball Invitational, hosted by Rugby School, and the experience was nothing short of outstanding.

This week, our students delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking assembly, showcasing their confidence and maturity in presenting two crucial global themes: the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Ahead of last week’s Christmas Fair, the Early Years and Primary classrooms were buzzing with parents who were invited into school for our termly Student Showcase.

The Arts Variety Show earlier this month was full of talent, creativity, and teamwork as our incredible students took the stage in our PAC Theatre. From the stunning music groups to the solo performances, every moment was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our confident, creative, and considerate learners.

This year, our Early Years Christmas performance was nothing short of magical! The show opened with a charming adaptation of We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

Our recent journey to Guizhou was an inspiring blend of cultural exchange, sustainable learning, and community impact, deeply aligned with the United Nations‘ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The boys’ basketball team has had a mixed start to the season. Despite a tough opening match where we lost 46-38 to YCIS, the team showed remarkable resilience, bouncing back to secure a 28-17 victory against SMIC the following week.

Every year, World Children’s Day reminds us to reflect on and support the rights, well-being, and voices of children everywhere. Promoted by UNICEF, this day carries a powerful message: every child deserves safety, a nurturing environment, access to quality education, and the freedom to dream big.
