Over the summer this year I had a great opportunity to attend the NAE-UNICEF summit as a school representative, working as a summit reporter. This was a massive program with more than 100 students from across our family of more than 80 Nord Anglia Education (NAE) schools, representing a huge range of nationalities.

We're exploring just some of the activities from school this week, and the academic journey began with a world of wonder and creativity!

In the realm of early childhood education, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision has emerged as a beacon of excellence. From their very first day at NAIS, every child in our care benefits from our shared vision: Together, we develop creative, confident and considerate learners prepared for their futures.

Excited students and their parents spent Tuesday afternoon choosing their after school activities (ASAs) for the coming season which commences on Monday 11 September.  A wide variety of vendors attended the event, providing detailed information about each activity and how it could benefit our students.

Congratulations to our Year 11 Class of 2023 for their hard work and resilience during their IGCSE studies over the past two years!

ChatGPT has made AI feel, well, real. In the blink of an eye awkward AI generated writing has now become more sophisticated and life-like. It’s almost, but not quite, like the real thing. But, what do we think as educators?

Our first day back at NAIS Pudong was filled with excitement and anticipation. Familiar faces and warm greetings made us feel at home. Adjustments for the new academic year were necessary, but the energetic atmosphere set a promising tone for the year ahead.

On Monday we return to the core business of education and providing the best possible provision and opportunities for our students, but alongside the traditional teaching and learning activities, the sometimes unsung heroes who make up our Parent & Community Association (PCA) also restarted their important work in their roles as conduits between the school and the community as a whole.

As we get ever closer to the official first day of the new academic year on Monday, it was wonderful to be able to open the campus today to welcome our new students and their families for an orientation morning.

We are excited to announce that the school facility renovation project is entering its final stages, and we warmly welcome all students back to campus. The diligent efforts put into revitalising our school's infrastructure have transformed the campus into a vibrant and upgraded learning environment.

At Nord Anglia International School (NAIS) Shanghai, Pudong, while our campus is very well equipped with a wide range technically advanced classroom features and a number of excellent sporting and activity facilities, our school at its heart is one built around community, personalisation and with a warm and welcoming environment.  We are proud to be able to offer our students a‘home from home’and a setting in which they are known by everyone and where they will always feel comfortable and confident.

When it comes to international education, the British curriculum has earned a reputation for its excellence and effectiveness, and at NAIS Pudong we are proud to be the longest running British curriculum school in Shanghai, entering our 22nd of operation this year. From the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programmes (and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for our Sixth Form), our students are well prepared for life beyond compulsory education.

We are thrilled to share the progress made in renovating our school facilities, which are now on the brink of completion. As we eagerly anticipate the return of our students, we are proud to welcome them back with a fresh and rejuvenated environment that will enhance their learning experience.

Writing is a critical part of the Primary curriculum at NAIS Pudong; it helps children to become better communicators and to express their thoughts and ideas in a clear and structured way. At the end of last term, we held a student showcase to demonstrate the outstanding progress our students make across the course of a single academic year. Parents were invited into the school to help them understand more about how their children learn and were given presentations by the students in various formats.

While Artificial Intelligence (AI) has long been a hot topic of discussion across the fields of technology, the introduction and rapid development of ChatGPT and similar applications has stoked new debate about how much we should be incorporating this kind of technology into education.  Our Principal, Diane Vaughan, recently sat down with Shanghai Daily’s education team to discuss these issues further, with the text of the article found below.
