STEM Unlocking Creativity and Innovation at BIS Abu Dhabi

Message from our Deputy Head of Secondary, Alan Grant

Let us take you on a journey through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at The British International School (BIS) Abu Dhabi, where curiosity begins early and innovation grows with every step.

Starting Young: Foundation Stage Exploration

This journey begins in Foundation Stage, where our youngest learners explore the world through hands-on discovery. Whether building bridges with blocks or experimenting with magnets, they’re already developing the problem-solving and inquiry skills that form the heart of STEM.

As students progress through Primary, their curiosity is nurtured through increasingly complex investigations, coding challenges, and collaborative projects. These experiences lay the groundwork for the analytical thinking and technical skills they’ll refine in Secondary.

Growing Through Secondary: GCSE to IB Pathways

From GCSE to IB, our pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics challenge students to think deeply and creatively. Beyond the classroom, real-world experiences like our F1 in Schools programme bring learning to life through design, engineering, and teamwork.

STEM Futures: Medicine and Engineering Pathways

Our commitment to Medicine and Engineering is stronger than ever. With outstanding opportunities and support, we’ve seen a leap in university STEM pathways, from 8 percent to 30 percent this year. It’s a powerful testament to the exposure and encouragement our students receive.

Inclusive, Integrated, and Family-Engaged STEM Learning

At BIS Abu Dhabi, STEM is not confined to a single subject. it’s woven throughout our curriculum, encouraging cross-disciplinary thinking and creativity. We are proud to support inclusive STEM learning, with initiatives that empower all students, including girls and underrepresented groups, to explore and excel in science and technology. Families are also part of the journey, with opportunities to engage through our Engineering and Medical Societies, where parents are invited to join events, hear from guest speakers, and contribute to meaningful discussions that connect classroom learning to real-world applications.

See STEM in Action

They say actions speak louder than words. In that spirit, we invite you to watch the video below for a glimpse into what our students are doing, where knowledge becomes innovation.
