BIS Abu Dhabi Graduate Interview

BIS Abu Dhabi Graduate Interview Gautham - BIS Abu Dhabi Graduate Interview Gautham
Meet Gautham, Class of 2025 IB Diploma Graduate

Gautham has had a long and meaningful relationship with BIS Abu Dhabi, first joining the school in FS2 and studying here until Year 7, before returning in Year 12 to complete the IB Diploma Programme. In July, he celebrated an incredible achievement, a final score of 40 points, a reflection of his hard work, passion, and determination.

“I remember seeing my score and immediately being stunned in awe. My father, who was sitting next to me, had a wide smile painted on his face as he laughed and congratulated me. I was frankly very proud of myself and felt even better knowing that I had made my family proud.”

He has now committed to the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, where he will begin the Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) programme as the first step towards studying medicine.
“Otago’s campus is ranked the fifth most beautiful in the world! The views and scenic landscapes are a reminder that student life is about more than just academics, it’s about the whole experience.”explained Gautham.

Gautham’s fascination with the human mind and body led him to choose this path.
I’ve always been drawn to neuropsychology and medicine. I strongly believe that with my passion and dedication, I can contribute to the future of healthcare and maybe even help lead revolutionary advancements.” His long-term goal? To become a neurologist or psychiatrist, making a meaningful impact in a field he loves.

Looking ahead, he’s eager to begin life in New Zealand. I’m really looking forward to meeting new people, exploring Māori culture, and broadening my multicultural outlook. And, of course, the breathtaking views and new cultural experiences give me something exciting to adapt to and embrace.”

He credits the IB Diploma Programmewith shaping him into the person he is today.
“The IBDP, as rigorous as it was, gave me a lot of maturity and knowledge. It pushed me to confront my weaknesses and constantly strive for improvement. Without that challenge, I wouldn't be who I am today.”

During his time at BISAbu Dhabi, he was a passionate leader. He served as President of the Economics and Debate Societies, successfully publishing the first issue of the Economics Journal’s second volume, and was also Chairperson of the Medical Society, working closely with fellow students and Dr. McDowell to promote student-led healthcare exploration.

Among his favourite memories at school are the Thursday afternoons with friends.
“Every week during our free periods, we used to head to the Baqala near school and laugh our lungs out. Those were the good days with Hamdaan, Thiren, Yvane, Basil, Kavin, and Adam. I’ll never forget those moments.”

When asked what he’ll miss most, his answer was heartfelt:
The amazing teachers who made the IB journey truly unforgettable. Especially Mrs. Osman, Mrs. Pritchard, Mrs. Mackinven, Mrs. Butler, and Mr. Deposé. They brought light and joy to every lesson in a way I’ve never experienced before. The gratitude and love I have for them, and for BIS Abu Dhabi, is something I can’t put into words. I hope I’ve made you all proud.”

Currently still in Abu Dhabi, he’s keeping busy with internships and projects as he prepares to move to New Zealand in January. Reflecting on the IB journey, he left us with this thought:
“The IBDP journey is a tumultuous trajectory of waves: storms and sunshine. However, what makes that expedition memorable and smooth is the crew you gather on board with you, and how well you steer your ship.”

Congratulations, Gautham! Your passion, leadership, and thoughtful nature will no doubt leave a lasting mark, both at Otago and far beyond. We’re proud to have been part of your journey and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
