St Andrews is proud to announce the opening of our brand-new building this August, featuring new classrooms and learning spaces for Foundation Stage (FS1–FS3) and Years 5 and 6. This is an exciting milestone that reflects our continued commitment to providing exceptional education for our learners.

Welcoming families and students for a first look

Ahead of the official opening, new families and students joining St Andrews had the opportunity to visit the new building and experience the space firsthand as part of our orientation programme. Students and parents explored the spacious corridors, light-filled classrooms, and purpose-built facilities, guided by members of our school leadership team. A parent commented, “It was great to have the opportunity to visit the new building and see the learning spaces in person. The classrooms and shared areas are very spacious, and it’s easy to see how the environment will support the children’s learning.”

We also welcomed our current Year 4 and Year 5 students for guided tours of the new space, giving them a chance to familiarise themselves with the environment ahead of the new academic year. A Year 4 student said, “My favourite part was seeing all the different areas we can use. I’m really excited to come back and have lessons here!”

It was especially meaningful to welcome our very first visitors to the building and to see the excitement on the children's faces as they explored. Many families and students commented on how spacious the classrooms and shared learning areas are, highlighting the sense of openness and possibility the new building offers.

This addition to the Primary School represents more than just a physical space; it is an investment in the future of our learners. By combining innovative design with a strong educational vision, St Andrews continues to create environments where children can thrive.

Spaces designed for Foundation Stage

Designed with purpose and care, the new building has been created specifically to support children in FS1 to FS3, placing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) philosophy at its heart. This thoughtfully planned environment nurtures curiosity, independence, and creativity, ensuring every child has the best possible start to their learning journey.

The new building has been carefully designed to meet the unique needs of young learners. Bright, open, and welcoming, the environment encourages exploration and collaboration from the moment children step inside.

One of the standout features is the free-flow layout, with interconnected internal shared spaces that allow children to move seamlessly between learning areas. This design fosters independence, communication, and child-led discovery, key principles of the EYFS approach.

Each classroom offers direct access to outdoor play areas, enabling children to transition effortlessly between indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day. These outdoor spaces are equipped with resources and play equipment specifically designed for FS1–FS3, supporting physical development, imaginative play, and social interaction.

Designed for growth: enhanced spaces for Years 5 & 6

While the building is centred around the Foundation Stage, it also includes dedicated spaces designed to support the evolving needs of our older primary learners in Years 5 and 6. These areas have been thoughtfully developed to encourage greater independence, collaboration, and deeper engagement with learning.

Flexible classroom layouts allow for a variety of teaching approaches, from whole-class instruction to small-group projects and independent study. Shared breakout areas provide opportunities for discussion, creativity, and cross-curricular exploration, reflecting the increasingly dynamic and inquiry-based nature of learning at this stage.

Mr Geoff, Head of Key Stage 2, shared his reflections after welcoming families and students into the new space: “It has been a real pleasure to welcome our first visitors into the new building and to take families and our current students around the space. Seeing the excitement on the children's faces as they explored the classrooms and shared areas has been incredibly rewarding. Many commented on how spacious the new learning environments are, and it has been fantastic to watch our students begin to imagine themselves learning and thriving here.”

The design ensures that our Year 5 and 6 students benefit from an environment that bridges primary and secondary learning styles, supporting their academic development while fostering confidence, responsibility, and readiness for the next stage of their educational journey.
