St Andrews is proud to celebrate High School students Ananya and Sanjana (from Class of 2026), Akshita, Andy and Aveer in Year 9, and Georgi in Year 10, who achieved an outstanding 100% pass rate in the DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) examinations, an internationally recognised French language certification awarded by the French Ministry of Education. To achieve this result, students completed months of focused preparation and demonstrated strong performance across all four key language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
A key part of the success is the expertise of the teaching team, including Ms Mabell, who brings extensive experience as a certified DELF/DALF examiner and instructor from her work with Alliance Française in Bahrain and Shanghai. Working closely with both Primary and High School language teams, she has helped embed internationally recognised qualifications into the curriculum.
"Seeing students take ownership of their learning journey is incredibly rewarding. The DELF exam gives them a tangible, internationally recognised credential that validates everything they have worked so hard to achieve. It builds confidence and creates a natural momentum to push forward to the next level: A2, B1, and beyond," said Ms Mabell.
French is the fifth most widely spoken language in the world and the second most learned foreign language globally, making it a valuable skill for students worldwide.
The DELF certification validates French-language proficiency for non-native speakers and is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a global standard for measuring language proficiency.
Students can take DELF exams across levels from A1 (beginner) to B2 (independent user), and every diploma is valid for life. It is widely recognised by universities, employers, and institutions around the world.
In today’s globalised world, multilingualism is a powerful advantage.
Being certified in a foreign language like French:
Strengthens university applications
Enhances career opportunities
Demonstrates global communication skills
Employers increasingly look for candidates who can work across languages and cultures. Language certification can open pathways in fields such as business, diplomacy, technology, and international relations, giving students a strong competitive edge.
Sanjana in Year 12’s father, Mr Sharad, reflects on the benefits of the DELF: "Passing the DELF exam had a very positive impact on my daughter's confidence and overall attitude towards learning French. Achieving an internationally recognised certification gave her a strong sense of accomplishment and increased her enthusiasm for continuing to learn the language. She is more confident when speaking and communicating in French, and the experience also strengthened her discipline and study habits, skills that served her well as she prepared for the IB exams. Most importantly, this experience made learning feel more rewarding than stressful. I would like to thank St Andrews, and particularly her French Teacher, whose dedication and extensive experience in DELF preparation and examinations, for the encouragement and support to achieve this milestone."
At St Andrews Bangkok, learning languages is a core part of the educational experience.
The school strongly believes in supporting native languages such as French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Thai, and learning foreign languages, including French, Mandarin, Spanish, and English as an Additional (EAL) support, offering a robust and inclusive language programme that begins in Year 1 and continues through to Year 13, with multiple pathways tailored to each student. This approach ensures students develop not only language proficiency, but also cultural awareness and a global mindset.
