For Year 6 teacher Luke Holian, AI has become another tool for solving a familiar challenge: how do you make revision feel less like a chore and more like an opportunity to grow?
Rather than relying solely on traditional revision methods, Luke set out to create something that children would genuinely want to return to. The result was GLowED, an interactive revision platform designed to help students prepare for their assessments through engaging learning.
As Luke explains:
"GLowED was created to help children prepare for their GL assessments in a more engaging, accessible and child-friendly way. The aim was to take key revision areas in English, maths and science and turn them into something that feels interactive, purposeful and enjoyable for pupils. By using levels, characters, progress tracking and visual feedback, the children are encouraged to revisit important skills while building confidence and independence. It has been lovely to see how positively the pupils have responded, especially those who might not always feel excited by traditional revision."
Technology With Purpose
The success of GLowED isn't really about AI, it's about identifying a genuine classroom challenge and using technology to solve it. As said by Luke, AI is not the end goal; it is simply one of the tools that makes great teaching even more effective.
As he explains:
"For me, technology works best when it solves a real classroom problem. GLowED is part of a wider interest I have in creating simple digital tools that save teachers time, support learning and help children feel more motivated. With technology changing so quickly, I think it is important that we keep exploring practical ways to use it thoughtfully in schools, without losing sight of what children and teachers actually need day to day."
This philosophy reflects a wider shift happening across education. As AI continues to develop, the role of teachers becomes even more important. Technology can generate resources, analyse data and personalise activities, but it cannot replace the expertise, empathy and professional judgement that great teachers bring to every lesson.
