On 26,27 April, our 9 Year 11 IGCSE Art & Design students boldly went where no BISB students have been in 3 years! They completed their Coursework and Exam! An amazing achievement! Covid had forced us to make changes to submitted art , until now.

Year 11 IGCSE Artists are getting close to the end of their course. At home, they are completing Coursework, which is a thorough project of their choice.

Year 13 Artists will reach the end of their Visual Arts journey in the next month or so, the first deadline will be their exhibition, held in social space in Oaks from Monday 28th March to Friday 1st April 2022.

The English department mission statement is: Find your Voice, speak your truth, and today we saw what happens when young people find their voice.

Year 9 Artists started by examining the face, trying to draw the features in proportion, then studying the shape. Once we had the shape accurate, we tried to build up a full range of tone, this helps the face look more 3D.

Singing nursery rhymes and songs to young children help develop their language and communication skills.

On Friday 5th of November, we held a Clothing Swap at school. A clothing swap is an opportunity for students and staff to clean out their wardrobes, bring in their old clothes and exchange them for something new.

This week we saw the continuation of our CAS clubs. It was amazing to see all of our students working so hard to engage in and learn new skills. We had students outside in the sun playing chess, students trying to make a change in school to improve students’ lives and students learning how to play instruments.

In history Year 11 students have been learning about the control that the USSR had over Eastern Europe.

CAS Years 7 to 11 kicked off with a start on the 9th of September with students going to their first activity. We had Zumba to biking to history club to drawing and more. Each fortnight we will bring you some information about some of the clubs that we are running.

Nursery and Reception and Years 1 and 2 enjoyed a falconry demonstration this week. A Barn owl, Eurasian eagle-owl, Raven and Red-tailed hawk were all brought to the children in the Maples playground and Willows garden. The children were shown how these birds of prey hunt, fly and survive in the wild. They also learned some interesting facts about each of the birds, for example, did you know that the Eurasian eagle-owl is the largest owl in Europe?

Year 12 students have completed the first part of their Theory of Knowledge assessment. This involved each student exhibiting 3 objects which help form an answer to a knowledge question. These are open questions such as What counts as good evidence for a claim?, How does the way that we organize or classify knowledge affect what we know?, Should some knowledge not be sought on ethical grounds?, Are some things unknowable?

This year we are running a really special summer camp at BISB. In collaboration with the British Theater School in Manchester, we are offering a Summer Drama Camp led by native English speakers and British actors.

The Canadian Computing Competition (CCC) is a fun but also a difficult challenge for secondary school students with an interest in programming. It is an opportunity for students to test their ability in designing, understanding, and implementing algorithms.

Students in Year 8 are being ambitious in their use of Minecraft in History this month to extend their understanding of the Slavery and Abolition topic they have been studying.

How lovely to have the students back in school! The corridors are buzzling, everywhere you can hear laugh and chit chat. In our last Year 7 German lesson we’ve tried to catch a bit of the Christmas spirit in our lesson by learning new things about Christmas and German Christmas vocabulary.

Our school is hosting College Entrance Exams - SAT on Saturday 19th December 2020.
